DXA (or DEXA as it’s also known) stands for Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry. A DXA scan is a technological method of measuring a person’s body composition and bone density. Body composition refers to the percentage of fat, bone, and muscle in your body. Bone density refers to the amount of bone mineral in bone tissue and bone strength. The procedure involves lying down on a padded table where an x-ray device scans your body from underneath, with an imaging device that is located above the body. The x-ray emits no more radiation than you would typically receive from stepping outside on a sunny day. Tests are quick and painless and are performed while the individual remains clothed.

Results of the DXA scan have proven to be accurate and precise and can be used to give you a more complete view of your overall health.
